A truly splendid, elegant venue with courtyard and private gardens.
Built for the Earl of Kent in 1679, this venue has a fascinating history. The house was extensively rebuilt in 1728 and retains much of the style of this time. From 1834 to 1859, the house was occupied by Earl de Grey, president of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
From 1912 to 1942 the house was home to the 2nd Viscount Astor and his famous wife Nancy. In 1996 it became the Naval and Military Club, since when it has been extensively and sympathetically restored to become the splendid venue of today. Original decorative features adorn the magnificent Staterooms and reflect the grandeur of this venue’s historic and illustrious past.
The entrance Hall is truly elegant with gold mouldings, classical pillars and a spectacular staircase.
Up to 120 guests can be seated for dining in the elegant Staterooms overlooking St James’s Square. The pretty Courtyard, with plane trees, is a charming and tranquil location for drinks or photographs on a fine day.
It may be possible to hold a marriage ceremony in St James’s Church, with photographs afterwards in St James’s Square.
