Sammy proposed to me on a weekend away in Amsterdam. It was a complete surprise!
The Bride – I designed my own dress and had it custom made. It was a two-piece outfit with a dress and coat. They were simple and elegant made from ivory silk. I had a lace edge around the coat and it reached the floor at the front and fell into a train at the back.
The Bridesmaids – I had two maids of honour. They both wore the same colour, which was a slightly greener version of the “tiffany” blue. They were dressed in basks and skirts. My three bridesmaids wore long ivory prom style gowns with a back tie detail and bolero. The back tie detail and the boleros’ were in the same colour as the maids of honour. My flower girl was also in an ivory dress with a bolero but her bolero was fluffy.
The Groom and Groomsmen – All the ushers were in Black tie, with matching ivory bow ties and buttonholes. The buttonholes were made of three baby orchids. The two fathers, best man and Sammy (bridegroom) all wore morning suits, orchid button holes with cravats and handkerchiefs in the blue/green colour to match the bridesmaids and maids of honour. Sammy’s buttonhole was slightly different; along with the orchids he had silver twine to match my bouquet.
Gaynes Park have a beautiful Orangery licensed for civil ceremonies. We decided to get married at the venue so that we did not need to travel between venues.
Room decorations – The barn has a mezzanine floor above the reception area, which we decorated with fairy lights. The four oak tree trunks were decorated with lights.
Table centrepieces – We had tall vases, containing white Casablanca lilies, bear grass and twisted willow, placed on round mirror tiles with tea lights. The bottom of the vases had a crushed ice effect.
Favours – As our wedding day was so near to New Years Eve we chose mini silver crackers for the women and skullcaps for the men. The crackers contained silver plated charms and the mens skullcaps were green swade and had our names and date of the wedding printed on the inside in silver.
A three tier white cake. The bottom tier was fruit, second tier chocolate cake and top tier vanilla sponge. The whole cake was covered in snowflakes and edible sparkles.
I got ready in the Apple Loft cottage at Gaynes Park. Sammy’s best man, David, drove him to the venue in a Jaguar.
Everyone says, “It’s your day” and “take everything in” and they are right. The day just passes by so quickly that you’ve got to take in every moment and enjoy it.
