Jason proposed in Camastianavig on the Isle of Skye. The whole weekend was a complete surprise – he took me to Skye, which is where my late mum’s family are from. He proposed on the beach that I used to play on as a child below my grandad’s old house. It was perfect!
The Bride – A beautiful made-to-measure sleeveless lace dress by Beverley Lister with a satin sash
tied as an empire line. The dress was from Evangeline Rose in Godalming, Surrey.

The Groom and Groomsmen – Jason wore a deep blue bespoke suit by Kilgour – Saville Row, tie by Eton and cufflinks by Poly Philippou. The Best man wore his own suit, tie by Eton and cufflinks by Poly Philippou. Ushers wore their own suits or kilts, ties by Simon Carter and cufflinks by Poly Philippou.
A colleague was married at The Curradine Barns and recommended it. We knew we wanted to get married in the Midlands so arranged a visit. John Ballard showed us round the barns, courtyard and grounds. We ate home-made cake in his kitchen and were hooked. It was the first venue we visited and John recommended that we see some more before deciding but we were decided. The setting is stunning, surrounded by
fields and the barns are beautiful. We booked the following day.
Room decorations – White linens and fairy lights. Tables were named after our favourite places visited
and we had a photo of the place on each table with a description of why it was so special. The guest plan was a map of the world with the tables marked on it.
Table centrepieces – My friend Claire made the table flowers, which were blue hydrangeas and white avalanche roses in clear vases. There were also tall vases with white hydrangeas and sea grass in the barn we married in, and blue organza tied round the trees in the courtyard.
Favours – Small galvanised buckets filled with crocus bulbs and topped with white shredded tissue. A few people thought the bulbs were nuts and ate them!
There was a mop of blue hydrangeas on top of a three tier chocolate cake decorated with scrolls of dark chocolate round the cake and shavings on top. It was made by my friend’s brother-in-law, Rob.
Arrived at the venue in a Blue Rolls Royce.
The day can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
