I was working as a television director and Doug was my cameraman. We met making a series about the New Forest.
We took a month off, travelling around Australia and on the way back we stayed in a thatched beach hut off the coast of Bali. Doug arranged a surprise meal on the beach and he proposed under a full moon.
The Bride – My dress was a very simple Maggie Sottero design. It had a chiffon overlay that gathered around the boned bodice and laced up the back.
The Bridesmaids – They wore chocolate brown, satin corsets and A-line skirts.
The Groom and Groomsmen – Their own suits.
We had our civil ceremony and reception at The Clock Barn near Whitchurch. We wanted a venue that was secluded and exclusively ours for the day. It had fantastic oak beams and is surrounded by cornfields. Perfect for the photos! We had a fantastic live rock band in the evening that went down a storm. Our first dance was ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson and we danced outside as the sun went down and guests waved sparklers.
Room decorations – Ivy and fairy lights around the beams, with dried Alliums heads and cream tin plate decorative hearts hanging around the room.
Table centrepieces – Baskets of woodland flowers.
Favours – My mother-in-law made willow hearts for each guest. Their names were attached using old-fashioned luggage labels.
A fantastic three tier chocolate cake covered in raspberries – wonderful! Provided through Perks Catering.
I arrived in a navy blue Austin Clifton with a picnic basket on the back. We were also taken for a drive into the countryside after the ceremony so that we could be alone and have some pictures taken by a beautiful river.
Learn to let others help out and delegate! Most of all enjoy it and soak up every second.
