Yuri proposed in Prague – he kept the ring in his pocket for 3 day waiting for the right moment, but ran out of time and had to pop the question after a bottle of wine on the last night in a restaurant on the banks of the Vltava river.
The Bridesmaids – Turquoise summer dresses
The Groom and Groomsmen – We all wore Neru style suits, with neck ties and waistcoats – the ushers in black suits and the groom in grey/silver.
Ceremony – We found a church near Audrey’s parents’ home.
Reception – Brewerstreet Farmhouse is a beautiful house with gardens which are intimate but expansive, with a good setup for the marquee. Above all, the owners, Chris & Sacha, made us absolutely welcome, and instilled confidence that the day would be perfect (which it was)!
Room decorations – Ivory Marquee with circular tables, gold/ivory chairs, table flower centrepieces and candles – handmade (by us!) menus, place cards, table names and place settings.
Table centrepieces – Circular oasis base to incorporate golf gold oriental lily, ivory avalanche rose, gold grace freesia and complimenting variegated ivy, vibrant green bupleurum and asparagus fern (one third of the fern to be misted gold). The surrounding area was styled with fresh ivory avalanche rose petals.
Favours – 5 sugared almonds wrapped in muslin, with the explanation on the place name card: “5 almonds for health, happiness, long life, fertility and wealth”.
The tables were named after famous couples, and each table’s name had a quote from the couple e.g. “Charles & Camilla – My great-grandmother and your great-grandfather were lovers. How about it?”
We also put name cards on the table, each with a different “Did you know?” fact about the couple on the back of the card (a different fact for each person on a table), e.g. “The groom proposed in spring 2004, under the Charles Bridge in Prague”.
A 3 tier white square sponge cake from Marks and Spencer, decorated with flowers between each layer.
Audrey’s uncle drove us in one of the family S Class Mercedes decorated with wedding decorations.
Small touches can make a big difference. On the day itself, take a step back whenever you can and remember to see and enjoy what is going on.
