Now you’re engaged – what next?

Now that all of the fuss about your engagement is over, it’s time to knuckle down and start building your dreams into a realistic wedding, check out our monthly planning guide. You don’t need to have everything planned within a month of announcing your engagement but there are some basics you need to think about:

Your Wedding Budget

This is sometimes a tricky area to tackle with your partner and respective families – who pays for what?. Make sure you set a realistic budget; only you know what you can afford. Get an idea about the costs involved.

Hints and Tips:

  • Compiling a provisional guest list will help when deciding on a budget.
The Wedding Venue

Many venues are being booked up to 18 months in advance so make sure this is one of the first things that you source. Once you have requested the brochures for the venues you are interested in, sit down with your partner and make a shortlist of venues that you would like to visit.

Hints and Tips:

  • When arranging visit appointments, please allow for plenty of time to travel between the venues and to book the visit dates and times.
  • Take a camera with you to take pictures of the venue so that you can refer to them later and show your family and friends.
The Wedding Date

With many dates being booked so far in advance you may not get an available date in the season that you wanted.

Hints and Tips:

  • Be realistic and perhaps let your heart rule your decision. Choose the venue rather than the date.
Wedding Insurance

We would always recommend taking out wedding insurance to ensure peace of mind more than anything else. Many wedding budgets are now in excess of the £15,000 mark, which is a large investment for most couples, and a loss of that investment is well worth protecting.

The Ceremony

Basically are you planning a religious wedding ceremony or a civil marriage/partnership ceremony?
