A weather girl got a surprise she did not forecast - when her boyfriend got down on one knee live on air.

Kim Perez, who works for the American network The Weather Channel, was in the middle of a live broadcast when her boyfriend Marty Cunningham popped the question live on air.

Standing in front of a huge screen showing the map of America, it slowly changed to a giant heart, before displaying the words 'Will You Marry Me?'.

The police officer also arranged with the show's producers for romantic music to be played to make the moment extra-special for his bride-to-be.
