'Truly impressive' Wasing Park wins award

'Truly impressive' Wasing Park wins award If couples are looking for the perfect wedding venue for their big day then one location in Berkshire may be ideal.

Wasing Park, in Aldermaston, has won the South of England Rural Enterprise Award from the Countryside Alliance.

The estate, which has been around for hundreds of years, was praised for the way in which it unites the local community through a series of events and organisations.

These include a film club, Christmas carol concert, fundraisers and functions for local schools.

Head judge Sara Rutherford described this as "truly impressive" and added: "Not only this but local produce is used where possible, many local people are employed and Wasing even appeared in the BBC TV series, Cranford."

The venue itself has been lovingly restored into a beautiful wedding and conference venue, as well as a fishery.

This is the fifth time the award have taken place and Wasing Park will now go up against other regional winners in an attempt to take the national title.

Over 100,000 people are members of the Countryside Alliance, which actively champions the benefits of rural life.
