Brides 'don't give up their dessert' for the recession

Brides 'don't give up their dessert' for the recession One wedding cake business owner claims that the financial cutbacks many brides-to-be are making as a result of the recession do not stop them from wanting delicious desserts.

According to Renee Pratt-Snively, who runs Renee's Fine Cakes, because of the economic downturn, some people are opting for smaller, less expensive creations.

This means that instead of choosing an elaborate, four-tired option worth several hundred pounds, customers are selecting smaller versions that still look good in the wedding photos.

Some are also going for small cupcakes - one for each guest - instead of a single dessert, she continues.

However, they will never stop buying wedding cakes altogether, she told the Windsor Star.

Ms Pratt-Snively said: "But people need cakes every day of the year. There's always a birthday, a wedding, a special occasion.

"It's dessert. People still treat themselves."

Nina Callaway recently suggested on her About.com weddings blog that people should think outside the box if they want a fabulous wedding day meal that does not break the bank.
