One of the best ways to save money on the big day is to give careful consideration the
wedding venue, it has been claimed.
The Mirror reports that the cost of a ceremony is higher than ever before and while the average nuptials amount to £18,000, there are some ways of cutting corners.
Nicole Ray, owner of an online wedding business, told the publication that apart from the
catering, the venue is often a couple's biggest expense, with many locations costing around £3,000 to hire.
However, by selecting a more
intimate setting, such as a country house rather than a large
hotel, people may find that they can save a few pennies.
When the ceremony is over, the publication also suggests asking guests to contribute to a honeymoon fund, rather than giving presents.
Money saving expert Martin Lewis said: "Make sure you check out the free upgrades and specials for honeymooners and speak directly with the travel firm."
People looking for an interesting venue may be pleased to learn that the Houses of Parliament have now been granted an official licence to hold weddings and
civil partnerships.
